This is by far one of our most popular DIY projects so I thought I’d go over the basics again of how to make a DIY burlap bouquet. We have had previous made a video tutorial and below you’ll find the steps you need to make this INCREDIBLY INEXPENSIVE, yet rustic bouqet. Enjoy!
Materials:
Burlap
Scissors
Floral stems (we found cool paper covered ones at Michael’s)
Ribbon
Glue gun
Pearl pins (optional)
Steps:
Cut a strip of burlap about 2 inches thick and a foot long (depending how big you’d like your flowers)
Take your stem and glue the tip of it onto the very end of your strip
Begin to roll your stem into the burlap, gluing along the way
Continue rolling your stem about 4-5 times. This creates the center “bud” of you flower
Now it’s time to start your petals! Take the fabric strip that is dangling from your “bud” and make a fold away from you, holding the bottom of the folding piece close to the stem
Overlapping your first “petal” slightly, create another backwards fold or petal. Again, holding the bottom of the fold near the stem
Glue your first two petals in place. Try to put the glue closer to the base of your flower
Continue steps 5-7 until you’ve completed an entire row of petals all the way around
Poke your glue gun in here and there to secure the flower
With your remaining fabric you’ll now secure the base of your flower and the top of your stem by winding the fabric around, gluing when appropriate.
Voilà! Your little burlap flower!
Now personally I like these flowers just on their own, but if you’d like to add a little color to your bud you can add a small piece of ribbon and a pearl pin in the center. If you’re making a bouquet like in the first photo, assemble a few burlap flowers, trim the ends and wrap with ribbon. It’s THAT easy.
Blue and orange are among the most charming color combinations this year. A touch of vintage, loads of vibrance, and extremely fun-loving. Alyssa and Hyrum’s wedding plays up DIY charm combined with sunny Orange County style. I don’t think I’ll ever get over lanterns. EVER. Let’s put our hands together for Kaysha Weiner for her photographic genius. A truly amazing Cali photographer – love her style!
Heyo friends! Here I am, fresh from the Martha Stewart Bridal Market party. Ok, I’ll be honest, I was a little less than fresh yesterday. Getting up for a 6am flight home was NOT my cup of tea. Especially after a killer shindig. That Martha certainly does throw a fab party. And PS – she’s 70 years old and looks 45! WTH? Whatever she’s doing. I wanna do. Now.
Alright so onward, we’re dealing with one heck of a cute wedding from Grass Valley, California. DIY all up in our faces. So much great backyard wedding inspiration. Budget-friendly and beautiful! Thank you to Sarah Maren Photography for such gorgeous photos. Here’s Sarah with a description from about this wedding: This wedding was just a lot of fun! Brandi is a professional scrapbooker, and brought lots of color and whimsy into her rainbow inspired wedding. The couples love for the outdoors, country living, great food and music was apparent in all of the details they put together. From the handmade napkins, to the multi-colored flowers adorning the wedding party, the ceremony space and the reception this event was loaded with color! The bride and her attendants wore custom cowboy boots with grey dresses. The groom and his men wore handsome grey suits with Vans and no ties to keep with casual, care-free atmosphere the couple so carefully created. After a delicious dinner of bbq and all the fixin’s, the couple opened up the delightful dessert table and the dance floor for a night under the stars.
FALL! I love fall. Even though our fall has been more like summer. I AIN’T complaining! Today’s DIY fall wedding is helluva cute. Kara and Sean’s Florida nuptuals are quaint, rustic and full of DIY love. I am especially taken by all of the detailed fall photos by Elizabeth Davis Photography. It’s making me crave pumpkin pie. Bad.
Meet Ainsley & Chad. Married in Waterdown, Ontario this past summer. Lovers of all things DIY and responsible for the immense cuteness you’re about to see. We also have Patti Miller Photography to blame for the gorgeous snapshots below. Are you loving the DIY ideas from this wedding? The honey favors are genius! And very DIY-able, if you’re so inclined. A word to my DIY brides out there: even if you’re challenging yourself with a DIY wedding, it’s extremely important to budget appropriately for your photographer. Don’t skimp on photography, my friends. It’s worth every penny! Here’s Patti with a summary from this wedding:
They were joined in marriage in front of 30 of their nearest and dearest friends and family at the beginning of Ontario’s summer heat wave. Ainsley is a DIY goddess and kept the thread of teal running through every aspect of the wedding. From Chad’s shirt to the placecards to the “getaway” car, every detail was purposefully and lovingly created. This budget friendly event was classy and tastefully organized and decorated and had such an intimate and relaxed feel. The onsite caterer bbq’ed everything fresh and the meal was delicious. The reception took place on the family’s back deck which was lined with two long tables.
