Ohio DIY Wedding – Yellow and Blue Details

EEEPS. I love La Belle Bride reader weddings! And a DIY wedding to boot. This little wedding blog feels special. I’m excited to share all the juicy DIY wedding details with y’all. Micki and Troy’s vibrant and pretty Ohio wedding is stacked with DIY wedding ideas and Micki is giving us the inside scoop on the play by play of her DIY projects. All the incredible blue and yellow details were brought to life through the mad skills and artistry of Ohio wedding photographers, Studio3z.  There’s no shortage of love, wedding ideas and smiles from this wedding.  Here’s Micki with some DIY words of wisdom:

I’m a huge fan of La Belle Bride and follow your lovely blog! Our big day was magical, whimsy, and almost entirely DIY. The wedding felt like “us” and I know that must be the cliché response…but, truly, I can’t think of a more fitting wedding. Carefree, spiritual, and abundantly HAPPY.

Most of the details of our aqua, yellow and gray-themed outdoor wedding were handmade by myself and my very talented mama Everything used in the wedding was either bought at a thrift store or a craft store or re-purposed from something already owned. We collected glass jars, both clear and aqua ones, for about 9 months (lots of spaghetti and salsa!) and incorporated them all throughout the event.

Our Favors: little glassine bags tied with baker’s twine with a soft peppermint (bride’s favorite candy) and toffee (groom’s favorite candy). On the bags were little tags that explained instead of getting more extravagant favors we donated money to the MS Society in honor of Troy’s mother who has the disease.

Our Guestbooks: I painted two paintings, one of a hot air balloon and one of a tree, and our guests signed these instead of a book. They now hang in our dining room and our bright reminders of our amazing day.

Our Flowers: We bought TONS of various flowers from a few vendors online. I knew I wanted the “wildflower” look and for everything to be green, white or yellow when it came to the flowers. We put together my bouquet and the boy’s boutonnieres, including billy balls. The girls’ bouquets were artificial flowers and that saved us some money!

Flower Girl: We made her little tutu, flower pin and her bucket. The bucket was bought cheaply at IKEA and we braided fabric for the handle. She said she felt like a ballerina (which made me so happy!)

Communion Table: A thrifted garden table covered with glass bottles and jars found at garage sales and thrift stores.

Pom-Pom Garland: Using an online reference, my mom made the pom-pom garland for the gazebo out of ribbon.

Table Decorations: Using burlap, handmade chalkboards, covered hardback books, lemons, jars, and vintage cameras, each table had a one-of-a-kind centerpiece. I collect vintage cameras and had enough to put one on each table. We covered our own books with craft and butcher paper and used them to create levels on the table. We also made our own little chalkboards for signs out of recycled wood and chalkboard spray paint.

Barn decorations: Twinkly lights, paper banners (made with scrapbook paper), and burlap pennant banners.

Cake decorations: Using scrapbook paper, we made a mini banner that went on our cake that was made by a friend. My mom painted two little peggie people who looked like Troy and me for the topper. Troy is a HUGE Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. As a surprise, my friend also made a Reds-themed cake for Troy!
