Washington DIY Wedding – School’s in session!
Attention kiddies. School is in session today with this adorable Washington wedding brought to us by Angela and Evan Photography. Angela and Evan are pretty much our BFFs here at La Belle Bride; Sponsors, friends and ridiculously talented photographers. Pair them up with a stylish couple like today’s bride and groom, Eli and Cindy, and the result is divine. This DIY school-themed wedding is a design and décor party and we’re all invited! I’ll let our bride, Cindy speak for herself and fill us in on all the juicy details:
Our inspiration came from the venue itself. As with most couples, we were searching for a venue that felt like “us” – a place that would match our style inherently (without a bunch of decorations to change its look). When we walked into the Hollywood Schoolhouse, we knew immediately that it was the place we’d been searching for. The schoolhouse has such a unique character about it… antique furniture and memorabilia, and lots of vintage touches like exposed brick, huge mirrors with ornate gold frames, and chandeliers throughout. Since the wedding was going to take place at a schoolhouse, it was only natural to go with a schoolhouse theme.
After we had the theme set, all the other elements fell into place. We wanted our wedding to evoke the whimsy of our grade school years while still reminding our guests that they were attending one of the most important events of our adult lives. I think we achieved just that by mixing the vintage elements throughout the venue with tailored grade school decorations. Our color scheme was based around things you’d find around a classroom… reds and blues from notebook paper, kraft (brown) from school lunch bags, and candy colors mixed in… for, well, candy!! Lots of candy!
Almost every detail in our wedding was a DIY project, from the invitations to the floral centerpieces to the old fashioned candy bar. Since we had a year to prepare, we prioritized tasks and took them on one by one… and by the time May rolled around, everything was ready.
When we arrived at the venue the day of, our incredibly devoted grooms/brides people (all 14 of them) sprung into action as Eli and I spent a quiet moment together being photographed upstairs. Before we knew it, everything was in its place and what we had envisioned for our wedding day came to life in the grand ballroom – a reflection of our style, personality and love that we could share with our closest friends and family.
